DeWeese helps save lives

2 min read

On behalf of Uniontown Hospital and the residents of Fayette County I would like to extend sincere appreciation to state Rep. Bill DeWeese for his extraordinary efforts to protect access to vital cardiology services in our community. Last week Bill delivered over 600 letters from staff, physicians and patients to the governor, asking for his assistance in this matter. Bill has been on the front line advocating to protect interventional cardiology services, which are threatened by the unreasonable requirements which are being imposed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. In his position of leadership in Harrisburg, he has been instrumental in gaining support for legislation which will sustain access to this lifesaving procedure.

Bill’s eloquence on the floor of the House and influence with other legislators were instrumental in achieving the overwhelming approval for House Bill 2443. We hope Gov. Ed Rendell will sign this important piece of legislation, but if he does not, we will rely on Bill’s continued support during a potential veto override effort. We have also recognized the impact of Sens. Richard A. Kasunic and Barry Stout, who have championed our cause in the Pennsylvania Senate.

Over the past three years the tangible benefits of local access to this advanced cardiac procedure have saved scores of lives and improved the quality of life for hundreds of area residents afflicted with coronary disease. We are indeed fortunate to be represented by effective legislators like these three.
