Hardy shouldn’t be criticized
I am writing to express my disappointment in the Herald-Standard for its recent editorial bashings of Joe Hardy. I subscribe to the Herald-Standard for its news coverage, not for its political and biased opinions. Its editorial page featuring Paul Sunyak’s “tale” comparing Mr. Hardy to Gilligan Island’s Thurston Howell III was absolutely ridiculous and never should have been printed. Mr. Hardy pledged to make a difference if he was elected as a Fayette County commissioner. He is without a doubt a man of his word who brought pride and excitement back to our county, city and community-at-large 10-fold.
In regard to Maggie Hardy Magerko’s decision to end the 84 Lumber Classic, it seems as if the Herald-Standard is trying to shame her for making a tough business decision. The Hardys’ hearts and wallets have contributed more to our community than anyone could have ever imagined.
Rather than criticizing the Hardys, the Herald-Standard should be thanking the Hardys for the opportunity to cover such a prestigious event. Our community greatly benefited from the national attention and accolades it received through the happenings of the 84 Lumber Classic. I know I am looking forward to one more year of it.
As for Mr. Hardy’s dedication to the total revitalization of our county seat, Uniontown, he developed a model here that is the envy of communities locally and around the country. Uniontown is well on its way as the region’s newest destination point.
Mr. Hardy has invested his own personal resources into Uniontown and truly cares about every element. He drives through the town countless times every day to make sure every last detail is maintained and precise.
He even has an office with three full-time employees who work with officials, merchants and organizations to bring businesses to town, develop buildings, maintain the streetscape, strategize future plans and organize events.
I am certain there is no other county, city or community in the country that has a Joe Hardy … if there is, I bet its hometown newspaper praises its Joe Hardy for all that he has done.
