Buildings don’t make students
Forty-two million dollars for the Uniontown Area Senior High School renovations? That’s optimistic; few construction projects from the pyramids to today have come in on budget or on time. This area can’t support the tax increase that will probably go along with the project.
As for some of the comments made at the school board meeting, I agree with the man from Ohiopyle who said the Pittsburgh Pirates got a new stadium, “But they’re the same old Pirates.” Just because students get a new building, it doesn’t mean that test scores will improve
About the girl who commented about the “dungeon” rooms, I’ll admit that the rooms below ground had one or two windows, but they’re below ground. The majority of rooms in that building have plenty of windows that let in more than enough light.
Most students probably think of their schools as dungeons, anyway. As for her comment about running to classes, I’m sure that’s true of all high schools. With the addition of a “tower of learning” (or whatever it is) there will be even more rushing around.
Of all the schools I’ve attended, Menallen Elementary, Benjamin Franklin Junior High School & Uniontown Area High School, UAHS is the nicest.
