Give peace a chance

2 min read

For over three years, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan continues with no end in sight. With it comes more loss of lives to not only our soldiers, but also other countries that have committed themselves to this war. Innocent people, young and old, are affected. The destruction … the grief … the cost to this country. With this war, a lot of hatred has entered from around the world, using such propaganda terms as Fascism, Nazis and Hitler, traitor, and axis of evil. All this does is inflame more hatred.

Political speeches are filled with the words “war” and “hatred.” What is wrong with the word “peace”? War does not lead to peace. War is often the mother of other wars.

These wars create more terrorists than the terrorists that were eliminated. It is na?ve to believe that problems can be solved through missiles, bombs and grenades. Somewhere there has to be a silver lining instead of words like war and hatred.

Words like peace make for a happier life. Peace does not kill, it does not destroy, and it does not have hatred. It has a friendly feeling with love for each other.

The United States, European countries, Middle East, Asia, Cuba, and South America should come together to solve their differences, and work for a peaceful solution. Life on this planet cannot continue with words of war and hatred, as it will destroy itself.

With the coming of election in November, we do not hear our politicians or president speak of peace or the problems in our own country; the illegal immigrants or drugs that are taking over this country and the crime that goes with it. Why not?

Former president of Iran Mohammed Khatami, in his visit to the U.S. at an appearance in a Chicago mosque, rallied Muslims to work for the cause of peace.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu at a peace jam gathering in Denver, urged the youth to yearn for peace, as youth are the ones who can make this a better world.

As our creator said, “Peace be with you. Peace I leave you. Love your neighbor as yourself.”
