More details, please, Mr. Hopkins
The Oct. 1 letter “Hopkins is what the doctor ordered” promotes Republican challenger Greg Hopkins for the 50th Legislative District representative, in opposition to Democratic incumbent Bill DeWeese. The letter was submitted by Chuck Swope of Spraggs, located in Greene County about eight miles south of Waynesburg. The narrative makes a feeble attempt to disguise dreary, worn-out platitudes such as snake oil, restructured tax system, excessive spending, and on and on.
A newcomer on the block of politics, Hopkins is far from being a household name within the county and district. The disenfranchised residents know the devil we have. We don’t know much about the devil we don’t have, which is Hopkins. I use the term “devil” because I have never seen anyone with a halo rush into the arena of politics, or any other arena for that matter.
I would help us a great deal if Hopkins would announce his positions, with supporting rational, regarding specific issues as follows: One, countywide storm water management program; two, development in the flood plain of unincorporated Morrisville; three, expansion of Route 21 to include a bypass of the hopeless Morrisville-Waynesburg traffic bottle neck; four, Route 88 bypass of Carmichaels; five, vitalization of industrial development; and last but not least, six, establish and sustain world-class public schools and public libraries.
Mr. Hopkins, sir, speak to us, please.
