Coach should blame himself
My letter is in regard to the Oct. 7 article “Brownsville Suffers crushing defeat at Yough.” I was enraged by Andy Assad’s (Brownsville head football coach) statement on what has become yet another poor performance season for the Brownsville Falcons. Mr. Assad stated, ” I don’t know what happened. I thought we turned the corner last year but we took a step back. We have a couple young kids, some injuries, some other things. It’s just a mess.”
I think Mr. Assad should reflect on his words and take a good, long look in the mirror. It is extremely low to place the blame on young kids when this season, I believe, we had 15 seniors. In my opinion, the boys are not to blame – these boys are just as capable and talented as any year. As head coach, Mr. Assad should step up and place the blame were it truly lies, on himself. To use Mr. Assad’s words, it appears to me that he has created this “mess.”
I hope he does some reflection and stops blaming the kids. Football and other sports are a perfect opportunity for young men, through proper coaching, guidance, and discipline, to obtain a college scholarship. I feel these young boys may be missing out.
I don’t have any children on the football team, but I truly feel that parents should demand answers from Mr. Assad and the Brownsville Area School Board. Mr. Assad’s contract was renewed and the job was not even opened to find more suitable candidates. Why? It certainly cannot be based on Mr. Assad’s job performance, which in my opinion is the real “mess.”
