War memorial info sought

2 min read

At a time when millions/billions are being spent on Southwestern Pennsylvania’s infrastructure in the hope of attracting new businesses to stimulate economic growth, a golden opportunity has presented itself at minimal cost. Soldiers & Sailors Museum in Pittsburgh has asked for help on a project that can only benefit Fayette County and its residents. Soldiers & Sailors is looking for pictures of local veteran/war memorials to display on their Web site as a resource. They would like to create a database of our area’s war memorials, monuments, statues, cemeteries and plaques.

The Viet Nam Veterans of Fayette County and the United War Veterans of the Uniontown area, with the invaluable assistance of Donald Seroka, director of the office of Fayette County Veterans Affairs, have already taken steps asking for help on this project from all veterans organizations in Fayette County.

At this time we also would like to invite all Fayette County community and youth groups to aid the veterans of Fayette County in their efforts.

All that needed is a picture of the monument or memorial and a brief biography (four to five lines) detailing when it was built, its purpose and location. To submit a picture call 412-621-4253 or write Mr. Neff at Soldiers & Sailors Hall, 4141 5th Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213.
