B’ville sewage hike onerous

2 min read

Our sewage rates in Brownsville went from $17.50 per month to $37 because the authority says the system couldn’t handle the load put upon it, so the system was updated to handle more load. What the big new building has to do with that, I don’t understand. That raises some questions for me and I suspect from a lot of other people. If when this system was put in it was engineered to handle the load, and I am sure they allow for certain percent above maximum load, what has changed to necessitate this update? The last thing going on in Brownsville is building projects; everything in town is empty. In fact, I came through town today and they were tearing down another building.

If this system was not engineered right in the first place, I think the engineering company should be surcharged to pay for their sewage needs. When I built my house I didn’t go to the sewage authority and ask them to have my neighbor to pay for it; I had to pay the $1,500.

I’m on pension and fixed income I can’t afford any more of these costs, yet I hear now we are going to get a new middle school. Where is the money for that going to come from? Do those in charge of this project understand that we have lost a high percentage of our tax base to the new highway project?

I would like everyone reading this to just stop and think of the homes and land that is not there for taxes anymore. I would like to see Brownsville Area School Board publish the results of the study they had done on this for everyone to evaluate.

Put it in the paper so the ones paying for this can see if we have the money to do so.
