Hopkins honest, has integrity

3 min read

As the good citizens of the state House’s 50th District ready themselves for the upcoming fall election, it is apparent that this election will not only shape our area for the next generation but will also decide the type of government that is in place in Harrisburg. In one corner we have the reform candidate. A bright young newcomer whose ambition is to change the direction of state government by voting for open records, reducing the size of our legislator by one half and eliminating property taxes.

In the other corner you have the 30-year incumbent, a man who’s never drawn anything but a government paycheck his entire life. A man who has been in the back of more limousines than the Rolling Stones, and been in more private planes than Oprah Winfrey and Paris Hilton combined.

Greg Hopkins is about letting the people of the 50th District improve the quality of life by lowering taxes and bringing integrity to the office of state representative. Incumbent H. William DeWeese’s 30-year reign has left the 50th District impoverished, disenchanted and void of real leadership.

Don’t believe me? Check the facts. After 30 years of DeWeese, the 50th District ranks number two in poverty in Pennsylvania, thus making it one of the poorest areas in the entire United States. Deweese’s campaign motto has been “I can get more done.” No kidding, Bill. It took you 30 years to come up with a consumption tax plan to replace the unfair property taxes, which you defend on a regular basis.

It takes Deweese about five minutes to book a large dinner party for his Philadelphia lawyer friends at the Hershey Hotel. Deweese lives a lifestyle comparable to a professional athlete or a Powerball winner. Is this what we work all our lives for? So this guy can go around thumbing his nose at people and retire a rich man?

I am challenging all of the voters in the 50th District to rise up and vote this career politician out of office. Let’s send a clear and concise message to the people in Harrisburg that the 50th District is not for sale, and that we the people are now taking control of our own destiny.

Greg Hopkins represents honesty, hope and integrity. In short, he is one of us. H. William DeWeese represents everything that is wrong with our state government. Midnight pay raises, Enron-type pensions and $13 million-dollar secret accounts that taxpayers have no access too.
