Poor journalism on DeWeese

2 min read

Contrary to what Paul Sunyak might think, military service is becoming an issue in the upcoming election. This is a result of Sunyak’s constant criticism of state Rep. Bill DeWeese’s military service and his motives for honoring veterans. You, Mr. Sunyak, are responsible for making these two subjects campaign issues. I read your commentary in the Sept. 1 edition and came to the conclusion that you feel a letter writing conspiracy has been initiated by DeWeese and veterans who support him. I don’t believe that to be the case.

I served to protect a free press and responsible journalism. Each day I read your comments and realize more of them are based on speculation rather than facts. That is poor journalism.

You created a problem when you criticized DeWeese’s military service. Your lack of service became an issue when you did this. It is fair for you to attack Deweese politically but it is unfair to attack his military service or his service to veterans in the 50th District. To do so is irresponsible on your part.

We are not easily duped. Please give us the facts and the truth, and we will decide what is good for us. The upcoming November election will be decided by the voters, not Paul Sunyak or the Herald-Standard.

In closing, who is squirming now?
