Vicites shouldn’t be singled out

1 min read

This letter is in response to one that appeared Jan. 21 condemning Fayette County Commissioner Vincent A. Vicites of faults during his tenure as commissioner – in particular, the allegation about Vicites and high taxes. Keep in mind that it takes at least two commissioners to pass any millage increase affecting the county. Vicites has served with several different Fayette County commissioners.

I am sure every one of them, over the past decade, has had to raise taxes to balance budgets by law when unforeseen expenses arose.

In contrast with the other counties in the Commonwealth, Fayette County is one of the lowest-taxing counties.

In fact, Fayette’s the lowest-taking county in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Moreover, I have a number of friends who resides in Greene County whose county taxes are much higher than the amount of my Fayette County taxes.

More importantly, Vicites, along with Commissioners Angela M. Zimmerlink and Joseph A. Hardy III, should be applauded since they have reduced taxes for two consecutive years. This has probably never been done in Fayette County.

Remember to keep an open mind and do not let politically motivated, negative, biased newspaper letters sway your opinion.
