Regatta just treading water
I read Monday’s paper and was so surprised to read about the Point Marion Regatta. I must have been at a different regatta. Where were these people that were mentioned? I saw very, very few and that it was mostly young teens. What’s wrong with this picture? Point Marion sure isn’t growing; in fact, it’s going to be a ghost town soon. I remember it used to be a busy town and had doctors, dentists, a bowling alley, theatre, bakery, pharmacy, furniture store, gas station and lots more. So tell me and all of us, what’s in the future?
So where at the regatta were there so many people? There was nothing for very small children. No carnival; the place looked awful. Friends of ours said they would never be back.
Look at the parade. If there weren’t fire trucks from different places and bands and a few other things, there wouldn’t be any parade.
There used to be floats, but not anymore. The banner that use to be hanging from the Klein’s building to let people know the about the regatta, is not there. There’s nothing exciting anymore to get people to come.
It sure isn’t getting bigger and better. Where was the Rotary in the parade? We never see any of them. The fireworks on Sunday night were very nice. They are about the only thing that brought people out.
To bad the fire department hasn’t been able to do much. I’m sure they would do a better job than the Rotary. We need younger blood to make this town grow; not be a ghost town.
