Cyber schools doing great job

2 min read

Statements made in Saturday’s newspaper by the Southeastern Greene School Board were grossly unfair and inaccurate. The fact is children in Greene County are getting a wonderful education through cyber schooling. I should know because I live here and both of my children attend public cyber schools, where they have enjoyed tremendous success.

I’m far from alone. Over 17,000 families are exercising the option afforded to them by the Pennsylvania legislature and are using their tax dollars on the public schools they prefer – schools, by the way, that cost less per student than traditional public schools.

This misinformation obscures the real facts about these innovative public schools. Your readers are poorly served when their school officials make outrageous statements about cyber schooling.

Our public cyber schools are making fantastic gains. I am able to monitor their progress daily and interact with their teacher. If we find my children are having a problem, we can devise a solution to help them immediately and get them back on track.

My children also enjoy the many field trips and social events with their classmates and teacher. I have no interest in sending my child to a school that keeps them glued to a computer.

It’s time to stop scapegoating public cyber schools for the bloated budgets and tax increases created by school districts. Our kids are receiving a quality public education, which is why more and more parents are enrolling their children in cyber schools.

I hope the Herald-Standard will stop contributing to the misinformation about cyber schools and consider both sides of the issue.
