Neon religion misses point
It is glaringly obvious that some misguided Fayette County church is guilty of bullying their way into our hearts and minds. The unwary highway traveler who happened to be going east on Route 40 is purposefully being distracted by a large red and black electronic billboard that seems more appropriate for the purposes of the “Lord of Darkness” than the God of Light.
What else but more highway accidents and death can come of this sacrilege?
This obscene message board displays a dangerously distracting intellectual message to the already daydreaming motor vehicle operators who must maneuver lane shifts alongside one another before exiting at Hopwood.
Summer tourism and increased highway volume will soon be upon us like flies on dung. Will PennDOT erect more warning signs to alert the unwary heading east past this church to stay focused and refrain from rubbernecking?
Some people need to reel in their religious ambitions, just as some politicians need to reel in their ambitions.
This is satanic mind-trapping which pulls driver’s focus away from our task of arriving safely at our chosen destinations … along with our precious cargos, you and me.
Ultimately, our destination is God. But how to get there safely? I’ll remind all preacher-types to meditate deeply on Matthew 22:34:
“Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, ‘Master, which is the great commandment in the law?’ Jesus said unto him, ‘Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God with all they heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.'”
In other words, if you do as Jesus did, meditating on his Lord above him, you become one in spirit with your very own beloved lord above you.
You become the Lord, just as Jesus became the Lord. Why be anything more than that?
Why be too ambitious and tempt your fellow man to believe a lie?
Why be a willing agent for the “Lord of Darkness”?
