Ashamed at veteran turnout

3 min read

OK, my fellow veterans from Fayette County. You had your chance and you blew it. A “Meet the Candidates” forum was held Saturday, April 28 at the North Union VFW Post 8543. Everyone who was running for a county office was there. How many of you were there? I’ll tell you how many: Four Vietnam veteran members were there. That’s all. A notice was mailed to all the veterans organizations and published in the newspaper. This meeting was discussed and brought before the veterans meetings, so all the veterans had enough time to move their schedules around so they could attend this forum.

The candidates were all there waiting to hear your comments and answer your questions, but not one of you care enough about your county and those who live in it to attend the meeting. Everyone has a reason why they can’t attend a meeting, but this “Meet the Candidates” forum shows where your priorities are.

By not attending this forum it appears that the veterans actually don’t care what is done to them. So years to come when things don’t go your way, just think back to April 28, 2007, and say, “My priorities should have been a little different.” I’m sitting here tonight trying to figure who’s to blame for this fiasco.

I guess every veteran who knew about the forum and chose not to attend can take a little blame. But not the people running for office; they “all” showed up today wanting to talk over the issues, but the vets had more important things to do. I know I will get over this sick feeling I have in my stomach, but until then I’m ashamed to say I’m a veteran of Fayette County.

To our elected officials and the candidates running for office, on behalf of all the veterans, I apologize.

Supreme Court decision hailed

The most recent Supreme Court decision upholding the ban on all partial birth abortions is not only most appreciated, it provided two giant steps: First for all pre-born in the 50 states of this nation, and second for those of pro-life convictions.

No human person, especially an innocent child, should ever have to endure that unnecessary and inhumane procedure. With developed intelligence and common sense, every adult clearly recognizes no one has any right to require puncturing the head of a live pre-born with scissors, destroying the brain matter and then to dispose of the remains in a waste container. Animals don’t do such actions to their offspring.

I rejoice, I am thankful to the Supreme Court justices and eagerly await justice for all born and pre-born.
