Vet explains why he was absent

2 min read

In response to Frank Voytek’s letter on May 1, I am going to tell why I did not go to the “Meet the Candidates Forum.” Since I was targeted in his letter as a Vietnam vet who doesn’t care, let me elaborate. It seems to me that all of the contested cases are between Democrats; as a registered Republican, I can’t vote for any of them in the May primary anyway. So why do I want to hear them bicker among themselves? Since I won’t vote for any Democrat in November it doesn’t matter to me.

Back in the 1970s I was a Democrat (honest). Then I noticed that all the 1960s hippie activists took a bath, cut their hair or shaved their legs and armpits, bought a business suit and infiltrated the Democratic Party and finally took control of it.

These are the same people who orchestrated our defeat in Vietnam and they are at it again today.

When I left Vietnam in 1968 we were winning. I’m glad my grandfather knew he helped win World War I, I know my dad is proud for helping to win World War II.

I, on the other hand, was on the losing side. Yes there are a lot of bad apples in Washington, D.C., and the roots of that apple tree are rotten, too, for putting them there. So don’t ask me to come “Meet the Democrats.” And don’t apologize for me or have a hissy fit and blame me for not showing up.
