Judicial system questioned
In response to the article “Dunbar man charged in crash,” I can’t recall ever hearing a more ridiculous cause of death. I can recall another story of a mother being charged for causing the death of her young daughter in a different accident. Is it not bad enough that these people will have to live with their actions every day for the rest of their lives?
Why is it that we allow the state to collect from these people who have not wronged the state?
I could understand a system that is set up to mediate compensations for victims of such losses while collecting a small operating fee.
However, I cannot understand one that imposes huge fines and penalties to line its own pockets, while doing virtually nothing for the real victims.
What happens for this deceased man’s family? They get to see the man responsible go to jail and pay the state. Does this put any bread on their table?
The answer is, “Hell no, it doesn’t.” This is not justice.
