Memorial critic should help out

2 min read

In response to the letter about the Uniontown firemen’s memorial needing upkeep, published May 10, I would like to voice my opinion. I find it remorseful that Mr. Rudolph Kochis submitted a letter calling out the Uniontown Fire Department in the “upkeep” of the fallen fire fighter’s memorial. Further, his comments of the memorial being “mundane” and his reference that the previous flowered mini-park and those volunteers servicing it were a better view is insulting.

As the son of a firefighter, I question Mr. Kochis’ true understanding of services that these brave men and women do each day for citizens just like him.

Does his heart drop each time the city’s fire alarm rings out like mine does? These are true volunteers of the community risking their lives each day, not those that planted pretty flowers in the former mini-park.

Rather than pick up a pen to voice your opinion, sir, perhaps trying to pick up your checkbook and make a donation, or picking up your feet and volunteering your services to the community and upkeep of the city’s memorials.

The faster “concerned citizens” such as you help the city with the memorial, the better off we will be.

However, I doubt you will take my advice.
