PennDOT goofs up job

2 min read

With the May 14 road work on the Hopwood-Fairchance Road, PennDot has a lot of explaining to do concerning this project. First of all, why would they choose to take a perfectly good black top road and transform it into a gravel pathway? Is this our forward thinking officials’ idea of progress, or just a way to throw us back into the depths of the depressing Fayette County way of life? Did anyone even survey this road to check its condition to verify that this work was required?

Second, anyone who is unfortunate enough to have to travel this gravel pathway knows the amount of excess gravel that was spread and left to be redistributed by the passing cars and the rainfall.

It is well know to everyone who lives in this area how the rainfall has washed the gravel into the culverts and clogged the drain pipes. Then there are the clouds of stone dust that billow up with every passing vehicle.

Add to this the fact that PennDot turns a deaf ear to our legitimate comments about the poor job they did to cause flooding concerns in our area. I personally reported a blocked culvert and drain at Varva Lane on May 16 and haven’t seen or heard from PennDot.

Their total disregard for the public is something that should never be allowed. And if they would do the job right the first time, they wouldn’t have to deal with all the angry calls to fix the mistakes that they themselves created.
