Plan for Brownsville
Brownsville shows a great deal of enthusiasm for the Penguins, Pirates, Steelers, bingo and the lottery. If there were that same interest in Brownsville, we would have it made. For years, a certain group of citizens have had a love affair with huge amounts of money, large grants, high-paid consultants, studies and publicity. They also favored two people (aka, the Bobsey Twins). The result was failure on two counts.
No one knows my experience, knowledge and success. So I offer my plan for our town. A plan that costs little but will give Brownsville a great return. Turn a negative into a positive. It’s all here, just waiting.
The program from the governor via the Fayette County Redevelopment Authority is going to be long and costly. This, however, becomes part of our positive. First, we take the two people (aka, the Bobsey Twins) and their 19-year history. Inform all media and state, and notify that our town is open for inspection by the public.
The Flat Iron Building would become an information center (making it productive), sight seeing bus tours, a weekly newsletter with up-to-date progress plans or musicians to create a song CD about the town, T-shirts (“Brownsville, Pa. – A disaster, man-made since 1989”) for sale.
Our town and our plan would catch the eyes of movie and TV script writers. Reality for entertainment is the “in” thing. Hope to hear from you.
