Rally a success
On April 24, 2009, Fayette County Children and Youth Services and The Crime Victims’ Center held the tenth annual “Refuse to Abuse Rally” in downtown Uniontown. The rally was immediately followed with a picnic lunch at the Uniontown Fire Department. Chief Chuck Coldren and his department graciously welcomed both agencies, students from Laurel Highlands, Uniontown, Brownsville, Albert Gallatin and Geibel Schools as well as many community members into the department to host this event. We believe this event encompassed in excess of 250 students and adults. This has been our largest attendance thus far. Every year it is our attempt to incorporate the community in this event. Without the efforts of the Uniontown Fire Department, county and local officials, the community and the schools this event could not occur. Although offering a fundraising component, the primary reason is to increase awareness of the local and national problem of sexual assault and child abuse. Each member of the community must take a stand to end the cycle of violence and abuse in Fayette County. We were excited to see the increase this year and hope it will continue to grow in years coming.
Fayette County Children and Youth Services and Crime Victims’ Center would like to thank all who donated and attended this event. We have increased our partnership over the years and have had an ongoing relationship with Parkvale Bank, which donates every year a grill to be auctioned off.
We look forward to a long working relationship with the schools, the Uniontown Fire Department and the community to continue to grow this extremely important rally in the future.
