Littering ruining our county

1 min read

I have lived in Fayette County all of my life and am appalled at how garbage dumping and littering along the roads has increased.

The mountain roads, rural roads, and main highways are “decorated” in trash.

Paper, can, and bottle litter, automobile tires, appliances, furniture and other trash can be found along our roadways. An example is the back road from Dunbar through Shady Grove to the Starlight Drive. It is cluttered with litter.

People from out of town who visit our area often comment, “What a dump!”

When people ride the scenic train through Fayette County, many comment about the “scenic litter” you can view from the train. Surely, this doesn’t help attract tourism or people to buy or build a home in our area.

Sometimes, I have seen a group try and clean  a spot, but within weeks, it is littered again.

I am pleading to our local government to address this big problem and come up with a solution to rid our area of littering and litterers.
