Weight limit questioned
I’m writing about the 10-ton weight limit on Route 281 through Markleysburg.
Who came up with that bright idea, doesn’t care about people trying to make a living hauling with a truck. Trucks haul food, building materials, gas, and you have to drive on roads to get where you are going to deliver. Don’t forget the expensive diesel fuel we have to buy to run on.
We live in the mountains not the city. And if they say it’s about the trucks tearing up the roads. People need to look around. How often do you see any workers out repairing the roads? Route 281 has deep holes all over it. I don’t see anyone rushing out to repair them.
Our business is located along Route 281. Now, I am told in order for us to haul our scrap, or bring our trucks home, we have to get a permit. I do know everyone who owns a truck has to pay a highway use tax, and high-price diesel fuel prices that keep going up and repairs on trucks and trailers.
And we to pay for special decals on their trucks. We pay our share of taxes just to keep our businesses going and to make a living. Where does all the tax money that we pay go? What is it used for? If we have to buy permits to run on a road, then we should be exempt from paying all the othertaxes we pay.
Maybe everyone who owns a business or truck should park and stop working and get on welfare. Then we wouldn’t have large vehicles on the roads. If we stop working, though, who will pay for the welfare system? Why is it if you try to work and make an honest living someone in an office has to change something to cost the working man more money.
I am speaking for all the hard-working truck drivers and business owners.
