Is fair getting greedy?
During the recent Fayette County Fair I had the privilege to work our church’s food booth. It was a wonderful and rewarding experience. I met a lot of people and thoroughly enjoyed being with some dear parishioners.
One rather sour note dampened my entire experience. I was told that our church had to pay $6 for each and every food booth worker to enter the gate and gain entrance to the fair grounds.
I think this is totally absurd and morally incorrect. I know the fair committee has expenses and people and acts need to be re numerated for their performances, but at $8 in advance and $11 at the gate, just how much money does the fair personnel need to meet their expenses?
Does the word greed enter into the equation? It seems to me that the old connotation of the county fair has long been forgotten and it is no longer a symbol for county residents, young and old, to attend a reasonable price and enjoy some family fun and entertainment.
A family of four has to pay a pretty penny just to get into the fairgrounds. I think it behooves the chosen ones who represent the fair to revamp their priorities and get back to the real meaning of the county fair.
