Don’t call them “Vinces”

4 min read

Letters to the Editor

How nice it would be to hear the Fayette County Commissioners addressed by their proper names. Is it so hard to address these two commissioners individually, instead of the two “Vinces?”

I imagine if we had four commissioners and the fourth would be named Angela, would we hear them also called the two Angelas? Mr. Vicites and Mr Zapotosky were elected to do a job. Why not let them do just that?

Angela Zimmerlink was elected by her party and it is her job to represent them. I would like to see both parties treated with respect.

After all, they are politicians. These commissioners are fine individuals.

Are they really as bad as portrayed?

I think not.

Remember a song performed by Jinx Dawson and Coven titled “One Tin Soldier” in the 1971 movie “Billy Jack?”

Just relax and play this song more than once. Just some food for thought!

I also want to compliment Mrs. Fike on her letter to the editor last week.

It was very nice.

Another tragedy

Just when I thought 2010 couldn’t’ve gotten any worse, I lost my last remaining brother Chester “Moe” Greer who passed away on Dec. 8 from a massive heart attack at the young age of 49.

I just lost my other brother Gary Greer who passed away on Jan. 5, 2010 from COPD and emphysema at the young age of 46.

Life, as I once knew it, will never be the same again, but hopefully I’ll be able to come to grips with these two terrible tragedies.

I also hope that my family will be able to remain strong as we weather yet another horrific storm. I pray, dear lord, that we can do it.

My oldest brother Lee Edward Greer passed away on Nov. 16, 1978, from a brain tumor at the very young age of only 20.

Now, I’m the only surviving brother and why, only God knows?

But with me being the very spirited person that I am and truly believing in the spirit world, I know our paths will cross again, but until then I’ll just have to carry on the best I can, and to be honest, that’s all I can do.

Library needs help

To the residents of Dunbar Borough and Dunbar Township:

The Dunbar Community Library opened its doors in 1991. This year, the library should be planning its 20th anniversary celebration. But instead of celebrating, the library may be shutting down due to the lack of funding.

The library is a place where anyone can go to read or borrow books, but it is so much more than that.

It is a place where children learn to love reading, and where older kids and teens can study and research school projects. Additionally, the Dunbar Community Library has computers available for use, free of charge. It also offers printing, copying, faxing and laminating services for a nominal fee.

The library’s board of directors would like to add a movie night, movie rentals, or both. We would like to also bring back the tutoring program, as well as the children’s story hour.

All of these services and programs cost money. The library must buy new books and pay utility fees.

Unfortunately, the library will not be able to cover its expenses much longer without help.

As a nonprofit organization, the Dunbar Community Library relies on the generosity of the community to keep it going.

We who have donated so much time and effort to operate the library now must ask you, our friends, neighbors and patrons, for support.

We realize that times are tough for everyone, but if you support the library and would like to help it stay open, please contribute whatever you can.

If you would like to help, please send gifts to P.O. Box 306, Dunbar, Pa., 15431.

You may also bring your gift to the library at 60 Connellsville St., Dunbar, between noon and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. For more information, please call Peggy Rankin at 724-277-8431.
