Yellow light needed

2 min read

Letters to the Editor

After reading the recent Herald-Standard article on coordinating traffic lights on Fayette Street in Uniontown, I wonder if the survey crews noticed the one light at the five corners intersection that goes from green straight to red.

If you are traveling on South Mount Vernon Avenue toward the five corners intersection and you get in the right lane as you approach the intersection, you have a traffic light that dictates when you may turn right onto Fayette Street.

If the light is green when you get there and you continue driving out into the intersection, chances are, depending on your luck with the timing of the light change, you will be out there going through a red light. There’s no yellow to give you that couple seconds to think.

One more note on the intersection. As you approach the intersection from South Mount Vernon Avenue, you get in the center lane because you are planning to turn left onto Route 40 toward the Mall, but you catch a red light.

As you wait, two lanes of traffic begin to back up directly across the intersection from you on North Mount Vernon Avenue. When the light changes to green, both lanes from North Mount Vernon pour into the intersection.

Some are going straight across the intersection to South Mount Vernon, some are turning right onto Route 40, and some are turning left onto Fayette Street. And you are going nowhere. You are stuck there till all traffic clears North Mount Vernon – and many times you sit through another red light.

How about a short delay on the light change on the North Mount Vernon side to allow at least a few cars to get out of South Mount Vernon turning left?

Defund Planned Parenthood

Our nation is in deep debt and serious cuts must be made. And, since Planned Parenthood, the biggest provider of abortions in our nation (even though elective; not required) receives millions of dollars yearly of taxpayers dollars, it must be defunded immediately.

The killing of innocent preborn is not a priority. It’s contradictory to the self-evident rights of our Declaration of Independence. Contact our U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey & Bob Casey and tell them to vote to defund Planned Parenthood now. America must be pro-life.
