Student defends school

2 min read

I am a student at the Fayette County Vocational-Technical School now called the Fayette County Career and Technical Institute.

I do not agree with Steve Neubauer and his letter to the editor, “Public needs chance to voice opinion on vo-tech plans.” Students who go to the school do not endure ridicule from our teachers and fellow students, and stand beside one another to protect one another.  As a group we are strong.

I do not feel as if we are being dumped at the school. In truth teenagers who attend the school do so at their own choice. There are a fair number of students that in fact take academic classes at their home schools.

The school is well known to the SkillsUSA and the BotsIQ scenes. The BotsIQ team last year went to the nationals in Indianapolis. Our principal makes sure that all the classes have up-to-date books and upgraded equipment, such as the iInformation technology class just last year received new books for the Microsoft Office 2011 books along with books for Windows 7 operating system.

Just this year alone we have attained brand new computer kits. Students from the school have taken jobs with the hospital in Uniontown and other big name businesses. Sure there are some who attend post-secondary school but they do so for more knowledge or a chance to attain higher paying jobs.

The school districts should invest the tax dollars into the school. We are a school that takes pride in its students. And most of all we can take any negative comments because we know that if we need support we turn to our instructors and fellow FCCTI classmates. We don’t leave anyone behind to suffer alone.
