Newspaper criticized
For the past 40 years the HeraldStandard.com has greatly assisted the McClellandtown Fire Co. by printing a photo and short promotion of our annual car show.
This is a fund raiser that we need for raising much needed revenue. This year, on our 40th anniversary, our request for a story was ignored and the photo, taken by a HS photographer, went unpublished. This resulted in a noticable drop in attendance and a decline in revenue.
I believe that the newspaper has a responsibility to report when citizens put forth extreme efforts to preserve our history, our culture, and the American way of life.
This has been done, and will continue to be done by the members of our community, McClellandtown, the firemen, and the members of the Summit Mountain Car Club.
Countless hours have been contributed by these unpaid volunteers, their only goal being to contribute to the offsetting the staggering expense of operating a volunteer organization interested in only in the welfare of our community and preserving the American way of life.
We had our own ceremony commemorating the events of Sept. 11. We also chose to commemorate our 40th year by the unveiling of the completion of a special restoration begun by the founder of our event, Curtis Newman. I have managed to complete this project of my father’s, four years after his passing.
What could have been a touching story of determination, responsibility and the American dream was ignored by the newspaper. The volunteers, the residents, and Curtis Newman deserved better.
