SPCA needs help

2 min read

I speak from the perspective of someone who loves animals and tries my best to give what I can to those in need.

This past weekend, I ended up transporting two kittens that had been dumped at Ohiopyle State Park to the Fayette County SPCA. Even though they were already filled to capacity, considering the circumstances, the shelter took in these two little ones. (I would have taken them myself, but I have two foster kittens currently for the shelter I volunteer at, plus my resident cat.)

This shelter is small. Their staffing is limited. The economy, as we all know, is not in the best condition. Shelters struggle to give animals in need of a second chance that opportunity with so few resources. I am writing to ask that residents consider volunteering at the shelter; as I spoke to one of the current volunteers, it was stated that they have few volunteers, but lots of need for them.

I know that many of us are pressed for time. If you go to the SPCA’s website, they have a “wishlist” of items you can donate that would help them immensely. Five dollars goes a long way when it comes to a shelter animal. Or the next time you’re out shopping, pick up a few items for the shelter and drop them off.

Please consider giving whatever you can to the SPCA. Many of us have pets that hold such a special place in our hearts. Other animals are not as fortunate and are waiting for a “forever home.” Hopefully, we can step up, give a little, and make the lives of animals a little bit better than they are now.
