Shuster not her choice

2 min read

In reading a recent letter to the editor defending Congressman Bill Shuster, I would like to express my views. As a senior and widow of a WW II veteran/coal miner, I oppose the things Shuster and his supporter stand for.

Unlike Shuster and his blind follower, I believe that seniors, miners, and veterans matter. It matters that Social Security and Medicare are not gutted. It matters that veterans get the benefits that they paid heavily for. It matters that miners receive the pensions, their black lung and their health insurance benefits they paid for.

It matters that women get equal pay for equal work. It matters that our children and grandchildren get an education. It matters that our air is fit to breathe, our water is safe to drink and our land is not a toxic waste dump.

It matters that our roads and bridges are safe to travel on. It matters that people are paid a living wage. It matters that women can have a place to go for free medical exams and health care. It matters that children are fed.

It matters that all Americans, not just the middle class, pay their fair share of taxes to reduce our national debt. The things that matter to me also mattered to my husband. None of the things that matter to me seem to matter to profit-driven people like Shuster or his defender.

My hope is that the people of America care more about their fellow Americans and our country than they do about corporation profits. I hope caring Americans will vote out the extremist views held by profit-driven people like Shuster and his defender, along with wannabes like Tom Smith, Romney and Ryan.
