Students need educated

1 min read

Concerning strategy for the Connellsville School District’s ability to preserve their right to display the Ten Commandments, my thought is that it is a historical document related to the history of man’s legal code or written laws.

Take the hot-button issue of God out of the debate. There is precedent for such a procedure. In history books the history of man’s laws are taught. The Code of Hammurabi is a list of ancient Sumerian law. It is taught to give students a comprehension of the development of the laws of society.

Is not ancient Hebrew law in the same category? How can students learn of man’s cultural development if we exclude excellent historical examples? Knowing of the 10 laws does not make one Jewish nor Christian, but it does aid one in logical reasoning as to what mankind thinks should be right and wrong.

My goodness, does not this type of education help give us good citizens, which is what public education was to be all about.
