Holidays losing meaning
The Grinch stole my Thanksgiving this year. Black Friday has now become Black Thursday thus eliminating yet another family holiday.
I suppose next year it will become Black Wednesday and Thanksgiving will be added to the list of fond memories of the “good old days.” This would be fine if it was voluntary as it is for you bargain hunting shoppers but thanks to excessive taxation and government regulations, jobs other than part-time employment in sales or service are also fond memories and family holidays are also sacrificed to earn a living.
Just remember shoppers and bargain hunters that although you choose to be shopping rather than sharing a meal with your family those serving you do not have a choice. Rather their choice is work or lose your job.
Since the day the old “blue laws” were repealed, there is no longer a family day. Unless you are lucky enough to work for the government or have a traditional 40-hour work week holidays are just another work day. I suppose that Christmas will soon become National Gift Exchange Day. Then we can add families to that long list of fond memories of the “Good Old Days.”
