Woman remembered
I recently read a beautiful tribute from a daughter to her mother in this newspaper, and I couldn’t help myself but to travel back in time.
I was in my first year as a teen and now being in my mid-fifties one would think memories from such along time ago would have faded a bit and rightfully so. But the memories I have of her are as fresh as if they happened last week.
This only happens when someone special comes into your life. If you grew up in the sixties and seventies around Uniontown, then maybe you’ll remember the annual carnival at the Uniontown Shopping Center. This is where she entered my life. I had just got done playing a baseball game at Bailey Park and still had my uniform on and thinking how cool I looked.
A buddy and I were waiting to ride the Zipper, when I heard a voice say, “we are afraid, can we ride with you?” This is when I turned around and there she stood with her friend. I have no words to describe that moment, except that it was a gift from God.
So don’t ever worry, your mother will never be forgotten by anyone who ever met her. I don’t remember if we won that game, but the rest was unforgettable !
