Property taxes must be eliminated

By Gary Shaporka 3 min read

I’m supporting Mr. Terry Ryan a resident of Albert Gallatin School District and chairman of Fayette County property owners. His strong and solid efforts with the Pennsylvania coalition of taxpayer associations is appreciated.

You never really own your home as long as it can be taken from you for not paying your property taxes. It’s insane. Your simply under threat of “eviction.” Where do you live, in a tent out in the woods? There are those undeserving residents that struggle to make ends meet financially. They live to do as best as possible to eat, shelter themselves and provide for their family’s well being.

Today’s economy being severely expensive creates a financial discomfort that is unbearable. It is extremely impossible to put aside the monetary amount to pay property taxes.

The Property Tax Independence Act will create a stable, predictable and fair stream of revenue for education. Homes in danger of being foreclosed could be prevented with elimination of property tax escrow that amounts to as much as 40 percent of mortgage payment. Wow!

Eliminating property tax will restore home value and make homes more attractive to buyers and make home ownership more affordable increasing sales and boosting the economy by attracting business development and stimulating the state’s economy and employment. It will allow a significant boost in personal wealth and investment for the future of home owners. With no property tax, the reassessment cost is eliminated and government spending decreased.

The Property Tax Independence Act would be funded by moderate expansion of sales tax to include services that are “not” presently taxed such as landscaping, haircuts, sport event tickets, dry cleaning, candy, magazines, clothing of more than $50 and food “not” on the WIC list. Instead of 6 percent sales tax, a 7 percenttax will be added. Big deal! It’s only a trivial amount that would not be missed paying little at a time as opposed to paying a “huge sum” all at once. It makes elementary sense.

Unfortunately, you have some politicians that drag out an issue for the fact they are focused on themselves in reference to their status circumstances. Promoting and speeding an important bill extremely favorable for their struggling constituents is utmost beneficial for their election. It’s understandable that political matters take time, possibly a handful slowing the horse out of the gate have money coming out of their ears and nose and living good off their political perks.

Particular unsupportive taxpayers cry about paying 7 percent sales tax on items they occasionally use. Struggling families are scratching the dirt for worms and the money pinchers are scratching their heads on how soon to buy a new car. It must be comforting to sleep on a pillow stuffed with money and a comforter stitched with $5 bills.

Harrisburg must support families having a difficult time holding onto their home. Speeding up the process is of importance. The property tax dish out is painful more so than sales tax.

I expect negative feedback. You are welcome to respond. Using my name in reference will prove yourself of imprudence and stupor.
