Daughter says her dad is a true hero

3 min read

Dear Dad,

Many fathers have walked the face of the earth. They have shown how courageous and noble they are by caring for a nation, by silencing the fears and worries of millions of people, by relieving suffering, by bringing peace to a corrupted city or even by changing history itself.

There’s only one problem. While all of the “stupendous” father’s were taking hold of the world’s attention, the true heroes were left in the dust.

When I say the true heroes I mean people like you, Dad. These heroes are the dads who are there to support their children whenever they have the chance to, dads who don’t have the capability of ending world hunger but have the capability of making their child smile, dads who will love their children more than any politician could ever love their country.

Dad, you don’t have to be perfect in every aspect, because I love you just how you are. You don’t have to be known by the world as the greatest dad to walk the earth, because I already know that. You don’t have to change everyone else’s world, because you’ve already changed mine.

I can see the goodness that others will and have overlooked. I’ve witnessed a true hero. I keep this heroism of yours to myself, though, because you don’t have to be the world’s hero for you to be my hero.

In the end, I hope that this silent honor may be passed along to all dads who have been overlooked for the hero that they are. Most of all, I hope that this left you knowing, without a doubt, that I truly think of you as the world’s greatest dad, even if nobody else knows it.

I love you SO much, and I want you to know how much I appreciate you; however, someone once said, “true greatness needs no praise, for it is found in the goodness of our hearts and is an extremely remarkable thing,”  but I’ll let you know of it anyways.

I wanted to end this by saying that I am honored to have you as a father, and I couldn’t ask for a better one than you. This may not have been super long, but everything I said, I meant, and I want you to know all of this. Happy Father’s Day!

Love,

Kathryn Campbell
