Deficit spending not feasible

By Don Miller 2 min read

As a “non-Tea Party” Republican, I am concerned about our great country.

The very fact that our country is operating without a budget is not understandable! What company operates without financial guidelines and remains successful? The idea that we don’t have a “balanced budget” should not be tolerated.

If we all, as individuals, spent what we earned during the year and then did not pay our income tax — but deferred that payment until another year — it would not be acceptable.

Our country is $16 trillion dollars in debt! That translates to about $50,000 per individual (man, woman and child) in the USA. We are quickly approaching the time when we would never be able to repay our loans.

There comes that time when you just do not have enough monies to pay out — that is called bankruptcy! When will that be?

The value of our social programs is only as good as the people paying for them. We would all like to give to maintain what we already have for firefighters, police, teachers, veterans, seniors, etc. But the reality is — we are running out of money! We cannot print it fast enough to keep up with the demand.

The beginning of the answer to the problem is for all of us to accept a little less for our services and pay a little more for others. Can we all do that? Will we all accept that fact? Are we, as individuals willing to pay our “fair share” of the debt we have incurred?

Please don’t put blame on someone just because they want to be able to pay for something they have purchased. That is only good financial management. We should demand our government pay their bills — because they are our bills! You see, the only money the government has is our money. If we don’t pay, they can’t pay!

Deficit spending in business is the road to destruction. Why do we allow it in government? Only spend what you earn!
