The Steelers let wide receiver Mike Wallace go as a free agent Tuesday. Should the Steelers have signed Wallace and let some other guys go? Or was it the right thing to let him go? Now that they’ve lost Harrison and Wallace, can the Steelers still remain in the hunt for the Super Bowl? Or is time to rebuild?
“It has been time to rebuild. He made his bed last year when he did not go to training camp. I am going to get bashed for this, but I think it is time to cut ties with Troy soon, too. He is not healthy as much as he is hurt, and that is taking away from the salary cap!”
“It’s a scripted sport anymore, but they can and will rebuild.”
“Our bigger problem is that the Steelers draft classes have not been good the past three years except for a few players. The way to win in a salary-capped sport is to draft well, keep and pay a few of the players, let the others go for the big-money second contracts and replace them with younger players. We have no good younger players to replace Wallace or Harrison.”
“I’m more upset about Harrison not willing to restructure his deal. He took the Joey Porter route, all about $ and being a Pittsburgh Steeler.”
“It has been time to rebuild for five years. We lost with Harrison and Wallace last year, we can certainly lose without them next year. Wallace was only a very expensive decoy, very fast but hands of stone. Harrison [was] better than average for so long, yet, time to go.”
“Wallace is the least of their worries. Now that most of Cowher’s guys are gone or soon leaving, let’s see how good a coach Tomlin is.”
“It’s time to rebuild. They need to let Ben go. His mind isn’t in the game anymore since he’s gotten married. He needs to walk. Take a long walk. Go home to your family, Ben, you ain’t needed here anymore.”
“This is not something new. Pittsburgh reloads after these guys get to that point of over-inflated contracts and move the next guy up. Don’t be surprised if Troy is next. Ben is not the problem. Elway went how many years before he won? Ben has two!”
