Walmart praised
I was born and raised in southwestern Pennsylvania, and I’ve spent a lifetime watching folks leave the region in search of good jobs. I’m proud to work for a company that has given me the opportunity to live and work and succeed at home.
May marked my 17th year with Walmart. I began as a trainee and now serve as a market manager overseeing seven stores that employ some 2,000 associates in the south Pittsburgh region, which includes Connellsville, Mount Pleasant and North Huntingdon.
People underestimate how much Walmart invests in career development and focuses on helping its associates. Area residents interested in opportunities can learn more at www.therealwalmart.com. So many of my colleagues got their starts just like me.
But that’s just the beginning. Walmart gave more than $19 million to Pennsylvania charities in 2012, including $50,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 13th annual Light the Night Walk last fall in Uniontown. I was honored to be a part of that event, just as I’m proud to have spent 17 years now serving family and friends every day in my own community.
