President Obama is apparently gaining ground in his drive for congressional backing of a military strike against Syria, winning critical support from House Speaker John Boehner. Do you agree with Obama that the U.S. has a duty to intervene? How far should the U.S. go if an attack is launched? Would it be worse to act, or not to act?
“I think Obama better mind his own business. If they are causing problems for the U.S., then do it, but if they aren’t doing anything, then keep your nose out.”
“I think it would be worse to attack. We should just stay home and tend to our own business. Why are all these other countries waiting to see what we are going to do? Let them do it, … or are they waiting to see if we attack so they can attack us?”
“It’s insanity to bomb Syria. Obama is deceiving us again. Impeach Obama now.”
“Stay out of it. We need to get out of that part of the world and tend to business here. We can’t save the world, and Obama has made a real mess of this.”
“Let’s see, here. We can go to war with a country that we don’t really have a need to be in, or we can feed the hungry and improve the economy in our own country. Tough one.”
“The United States doesn’t have a “duty” to pick the winner in another country’s civil war. It isn’t totally clear that Assad or any of his top commanders actually ordered the use of chemical weapons, and even if it was, that’s not enough to justify putting Americans in harm’s way.”
“The other thing that’s being overlooked here is that the rebels we’re helping are not good people, and they’re not fighting for freedom and democracy. They’re Islamic extremists fighting to replace a secular totalitarian government with an Islamic totalitarian government. After we have helped them do that, they won’t be friends of the United States.”
“The proper response is clear; stay out of it.”
“Why is he using Congress this time around when he’s always going over their head for everything else he wants done? I guess they will get the blame when things go wrong, instead of him.”
“Obama is using Congress as a scapegoat. Eighty percent of the American public is opposed to going into Syria, so it should be case closed.”
