U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, who represents all of Fayette County along with parts of Washingon and Greene counties, made a 33-mile trip to the Pittsburgh International Airport Thursday in a driverless car. Experts say computers can drive cars better than people. Do you like this idea, or do you hate it? Think it’s the wave of the future, or a passing fad?

“Bill Shuster has been driverless and clueless for a long time.”

“I want to keep control of the car myself, thanks!”

“The human-steered vehicle experiment is over and has failed miserably. Driving a car is the most dangerous thing people do everyday. The future is coming faster than you think, and it’s foolish to think you’ll have a choice in the matter.”

“Like this’ll ever come into a residential market? You know how many less DUI tickets/convictions would result? The police who need their quota and those penalty funds will not allow this.”

“Personally I look forward to our self-driving overlords!”

“I don’t even like cruise control.”

“It will probably happen some day.”

“As long as the cars run on “big oil” it will happen. The oil companies rule the auto industry in the U.S.”

“What’s going to happen when the computer in the car shuts down as computers have been known to do. And we all know that always happens at the worst time possible.”

“Computers already control too much of our lives. Do we really have to let them do everything for us. Can’t we do anything that doesn’t involve computers. Pretty soon you’ll have to check in with a computer to see if it’s OK to go to bed at night and wake up in the morning.”

“Everyone needs to relax. This technology is a ways off. It’s not like we’re going to wake up tomorrow with computers controlling our cars. So, when it does happen, and it will, we’ll be prepared for it. Whoever thought just five years ago that phones would do things they do today?”

“You can’t slow technology down. These computer cars are coming, and the best thing is to adapt to them.”
