Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin has announced it’s laying off 15 percent of its employees. A spokeswoman said customers have been “resistant” to the access plan under which state law requires those entering the casino for the first time to pay at least $10. How big of a problem do you think it is that customers have to pay at least $10 the first time they enter the casino?

“The only way the gaming commission would offer the license to Nemacolin was if there was a $10 charge. The Hardys had nothing to do with that. You get the $10 back in a gift card which you can use for food, drinks or in the gift shop.”

“My daughter was one of the people laid off. First, it wasn’t the Hardys. Second, you get the ten back. And they did offer them other jobs. The people who are complaining need to read the facts first and quit blaming the Hardys when they don’t have anything to do with it.”

“It’s probably primarily a result of the area being oversaturated with casinos more than it is a result of the $10 charge. There are 3 (4 if you count Mountaineer) large casinos relatively close to Nemacolin, and they’re all closer to interstates and larger towns. There are only so many gamblers to go around. Even Atlantic City is having difficulty getting people to come, because there are casinos everywhere, now.”

“I don’t gamble, so I have no reason to go there. But, if I did gamble, a lousy 10 bucks is chump change. You will pay more than that to park at a ballgame. Personally, I think that the lack of business is a combination of local demographics, Nemacolin’s reputation of being an exclusive member-only kind of place that the average Joe can’t afford and its location and lack of nearby entertainment options.”

“If I was Joe Hardy, I wouldn’t give a dime to Fayette County the way people complain — crazy, crazy, crazy.”

“People have to start supporting local businesses here. Otherwise, Fayette County will really turn into a ghost town, and who wants to see that?”
