Fayette County Commissioner Angela Zimmerlink claims her fellow commissioners Al Ambrosini and Vince Zapotosky are in a rush to build a new county prison and haven’t stopped to consider all the options. Do you agree, or disagree, with Zimmerlink? Do you think Fayette County needs a new prison, or not?

“Although there is a need for an updated/new prison, they can’t even manage the one that they have. Everyone complains about the prison being badly overcrowded, but no one ever researched as to why it is overcrowded! Has anyone stopped to realize that magistrates and judges are totally out of control?”

“Let’s get the bridge from Coolspring to Lemont fixed first.”

“I have a good friend, and he’s a good man who was locked up for five days because he was upset with the gas companies dumping toxic water on his land. All true. They put him in jail. Open your eyes. When you awake, it’s hard to go back to sheep.”

“How about spending the money on helping the county with things like education centers for job training. Something positive needs done to help the people of Fayette County.”

“When you are putting people in jail for not cutting grass and not paying traffic fines, then you will have overcrowded prisons with prisoners being shipped to Greene County.”

“I think we need a new prison, but at the same time there is so much need in Fayette County, it’s like a crap shoot of where to start. I am hoping they make the correct decision. The prison is outdated and shouldn’t probably be used at all. Even though these people break the law, they should be housed safely and in a clean facility.”

“Yes, they need a new one.”

“Flooding of water, sewage backup, phones don’t work, black mold in kitchen and electrical problems. Those are just a few of the problems at the prison. No one should have to deal with that. It’s bad with the rates and roaches.”

“The people that are saying no should spend a few nights and days locked up. I would bet not one of them will be willing to spend one night in there. Who else would like to see this?”
