In response to: Don’t blame police — Letter to the editor, Nov. 30

“If you read the article on bearingarms.com, which is the latest article on this, a group of volunteers has been guarding four stores in Ferguson at the request of the owners to prevent arson. A group of blacks has been guarding a gas station. State and federal snipers took up positions pointing rifles at the guards. It appears that the government wants to have more businesses burn down. The group, Oathkeepers, was organized after Blackwater/Xe/The Academi mercenaries went door-to-door after Katrina stealing guns from people who owned them legally and in such a way that they could not get them back. They then went away and left the disarmed citizens to the mercy of the looters. All had been required to swear to defend our Constitution against all enemies, and they vowed that they would not follow illegal orders, as Blackwater had done. That was another part of their military training.”

In response to: Brownsville Area School Board pulls advertising, citing negative coverage — News article, Dec. 5

“The Brownsville School Board, once again, is demonstrating its total lack of understanding of the functions of a free press. Revenue from the publication of public notices is not intended as a reward or punishment for a local news media company. The notices are paid for by public money, and their sole purpose is to inform the public. The school board may not like what the newspaper writes, but they are not a private company. They should not order checks to be written only to people or companies they like. There are other methods available to the school board for countering what they consider to be negative news. It’s sad that the board members seem to have no respect for the First Amendment and one of the basic freedoms on which our democracy was founded. Dictators throughout history have controlled the news media. Is this what the board members want? It’s petty, immature, arrogant and counterproductive. It makes you wonder what they want to hide?”

In response to: Charges to be filed after elementary bus altercation — News Article, Dec. 5

“It’s sad that the schools or school bus aren’t even a safe place for kids to be. Fighting and bullying, unfortunately, have been around for years. But it is really terrible that these are elementary students, and the school didn’t seem to want to take care of the problem until someone got hurt. More needs to be done to stop these problems. But it doesn’t surprise me that it is swept under the rug. It’s normal for the district.”
