Sign referendum
After reading the statements made by Fayette County Commissioner Vince Zapotosky to the Herald-Standard in its Jan. 30 edition, I didn’t know whether to be glad or angry.
I’m glad he has come to the realization that we should explore other options to solve the prison problems. He is parroting what a number of concerned citizens have been expressing for months at the monthly commissioners’ meetings.
These people have pointed out alternatives to to the commissioners plan and to flaws in that plan. This is what Zapotosky deems a dog-and-pony show. The only dog-and-pony shows I have witnessed were the co-called public forums wherein no public discussions were permitted. They were simply an effort to sell their plans to build a new prison. Their pitchman was their architect.
Because Zapotosky and his fellow Commissioner Al Ambrosini have lost all creditability, it is difficult for me to believe they are sincere about anything. Political expediency seems to be more their style. In my observation, the only commissioner with common sense is Mrs. Angela Zimmerlink. She has been proposing the need to explore other alternative methods to solve the prison problem since day one.
Since the citizens of this county have been excluded from any of decision making in regard to the prison problem, a group of concerned citizens are attempting to have a referendum placed on the primary ballot in May that will let the registered voters of this county have input into what decisions are made in regard to the prison issue.
Petitions to that effect will be circulated shortly. If you are not registered to vote, do so now. Please sign it, and vote in the May primary election.
