University criticized
With the news that Sean “P. Diddy” Combs was the honored guest who was invited to address the class of 2014 at Howard University, I have now heard everything.
Combs is known as a hip-hop artist whose crude and profane “music” seeks the lowest common denominator, appealing to the most undignified, base and coarse individual.
This invitation is particularly ironic as it comes at a time that the distinguished former Secretary of State Condolleezza Rice felt obligated to bow out of fulfilling her invitation to address the graduating class of Rutgers University due to dissension within the school over her service within the George W. Bush administration. One would receive the most inspirational and best advice from an individual of Rice’s stature and intellect rather than from a vulgarian who is known for presenting slop in the guise of artistic expression.
Howard University shall be known forevermore as a joke among the academic community of legitimate institutions of higher learning. It has served to slap its distinguished students and alumni in the face.
