Pennsylvania’s ban on gay marriage was overturned by a federal judge Tuesday in a decision that legalizes same-sex marriage throughout the Northeast. U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III called the plaintiffs — a widow, 11 couples and one of the couples’ two teenage daughters — courageous. “We are a better people than what these laws represent, and it is time to discard them into the ash heap of history,” Jones wrote of the 1996 state ban. Do you agree or disagree with the judge’s ruling? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

“I agree! It’s about denying people basic rights just because they make different choices.”

“Seriously? Do you know homosexuality used to be considered a mental disease? Not to mention it’s against God’s law. They aren’t being denied basic rights. Marriage is a privilege. A unity made by God for a man and a woman.”

“Maybe people read and quote the part of the Bible about judging someone. Gays being married doesn’t affect you. Move along, and try not to be so judgemental. Maybe one day, those “gays” will have to give you CPR.”

“Homosexuality used to be considered a mental illness much like the Earth used to be considered flat, black people used to be considered sub-human property, and marriage used to be a business transaction between men and women. It’s sad watching people cling to an obsolete, bigoted world view.”

“Homosexuality is still considered by the masses to be a perversion. They are still very much the minority in this county. Don’t compare blacks to homosexuals. You’re born black. Your not born gay. It’s a lifestyle choice. If it wasn’t for Hollywood and all these big money groups pushing for “equal rights,” homosexuals would still be where they were in the ’90s.”

“In all actuality, Jesus said you are not to judge a person, but you are allowed to condemn a sin. There’s a huge difference.”

“How do you know it’s a lifestyle choice?! I for one am straight. However, you can’t say that it’s a lifestyle choice! And even if it was, who are we to judge who should and shouldn’t be together. I highly believe in god, but I also believe that everyone should be treated equal. Whether straight, gay, bisexual, black, white, or Hispanic.

“The fact that marriage is a privilege is absurd! I know many straight people that never should have married, but under their rights, they married. So to say these things is just crazy!”

“Yay for love! And that “God’s law” thing – it has no bearing on the laws that govern the masses. We stopped stoning divorcees and sassy kids to death some time ago. Consuming pork and shrimp is legal, as is working on Sunday. Jesus said to love everyone – even the queers next door. By all means, honor your God’s law as you see fit – but that doesn’t mean you get to apply it to everyone else. Happy to see us evolving!”
