Stefano campaign criticzed

By Vinny Scott 3 min read

Election day being six weeks away, I’m very disappointed in the continuous negative advertising campaign from senatorial candidate Pat Stefano.

This is not the character that I would hope for in a candidate for this position. Voters would prefer information on accomplishments and goals for this area. I was, however, very happy to see Deb Kula’s mailer. It contained nothing negative about her opponent. It had information about her accomplishments and examples of her experience.

Being a veteran, I was honored see the veteran support for her. This is the integrity and character that I would expect from a a future senator. Mr. Stefano’s television attack on her pension, car, and per diems is just political manipulation.

Is this all he has to offer to voters in the 32nd District? It’s been one attack after another. Mr. Stefano claims in his mailing that he is an independent Republican. However, his television ads and mailings all state they are paid for by the Republican Party. They have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on him.

When elected to the state Legislature, Deb Kula accepted the employment package that was given to her. All legislators are offered this same package, including the Republicans that are funding Stefano’s campaign. These same Republicans take per diems, pensions, cars or mileage, but their candidate Pat Stefano won’t? Really?

I definitely don’t fault Deb Kula for her pension. I have friends and family members that are truck drivers, coal miners, teachers, steel workers, policemen, rail workers and grocery store workers, working everyday for their pensions. They work for it. They deserve it. They are entitled to it. They are working, paying taxes, contributing to our communities, and they deserve it.

Apparently Mr. Stefano doesn’t believe that working class folks deserve pensions. His mailer states that his father is a retired teacher of 30 years. That qualifies him for a state-paid, taxpayer-paid pension. He is entitled to this pension. Does Mr. Stefano believe his own father should or shouldn’t receive his pension? None of his campaign speaks of truth. Can we believe anything that has been said?

This is all political smoke and mirrors. Will Pat Stefano put aside the employment package offered to him in the Legislature, the pension, per diems, car or millage, or will he consider his family’s future.

All of his Republican supporters and colleagues are taking the benefits. Mr. Stefano will not speak for his district. He will have to do what he is told to do.

The voters of the 32nd District are smarter than this. This campaign proves that Deberah Kula has the integrity, experience and honesty to be the next senator of the 32nd District.
