Colebank touts candidacy

By Edward Colebank 3 min read

My name is Edward Colebank, and I am seeking re-election as a school director in the Albert Gallatin School District.

It’s a position I have proudly held for the past 16 years. I have the knowledge and the experience to continue to be a diligent and honest voice for the taxpayers in the AG district. As a former educator and administrator, I know what it takes to operate a public school district, and I am not afraid to speak up to ensure that the students are always being put at the forefront of every decision made. I also serve on the board of directors for the Fayette County Career and Technical Institute and have done so for the past 14 years.

During my tenure on the AG school board, I have helped to oversee the complete remodel of several buildings as well as the construction of two completely new ones. This helped to ensure a safe, pleasant learning environment for all students in the district. We have also overhauled the entire technology infrastructure for the district so that students can have state-of-the-art learning experiences and parents can have easy access to their children’s grades and lessons. Teachers have been trained on new systems and programs and are fully encouraged to use technology in their classrooms.

As a board member, I have always pushed for a full open-door policy when it comes to how we communicate with parents and the public. I do not believe in backdoor politics in public school systems and I will never condone such actions. I also believe that the government should not have full control of our schools. Parents, students, community members, administration, and teachers know what is best for our local schools. These are the people who should be the decision makers when it comes to best practice in educating our children.

Before retiring, my entire career was spent working in the Albert Gallatin School District, first as a teacher and coach and then as a principal. My wife, Betty Ann and I choose to stay in the Albert Gallatin District because we believe that it is an excellent place to raise and educate children. Both of our children attended and graduated from AG, and we currently have four grandchildren attending Albert Gallatin schools. My wife and I are also AG graduates. We are a proud Albert Gallatin family and are direct examples of just how far a quality education can go.

It is my ultimate goal to continue to serve as your school director. I have always made my voting decisions based on what is right and honest for the students, teachers, taxpayers, and district and I will continue to do so for as long as you will allow me. I am not afraid to make the hard decisions and my vote can never be bought. My vision is to continue to help make the Albert Gallatin School District the best in Fayette County. Together we can achieve this goal. So, when you go to cast your vote on election day, I ask that you consider placing a vote for me. I will not let you down. . .there is just too much at stake. Thank you for your time.

Edward Colebank is a resident of Masontown.
