Let’s show our joy this Christmas
With the recent warmer weather, we trudged up the stairs of our garage to the storage loft for the annual ritual: Bringing out of storage, our indoor and outdoor Christmas decorations. The older I get, the harder the chore gets.
But we do it not just because we like our Nativity statues, pretty lights, ornaments, Christmas tree, etc. Not just because it makes our modest home look so bright during the long December nights. We decorate for the greatest celebration of all. The commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ! When God-who with Jesus, created everything-sent his Son to live among us-and die for our sins.
We love ‘birth’ day parties…when the birth of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, other family…and friends are commemorated. It is customary to decorate for those celebrations whether it is the exact date of one’s birth, or not. Why not for the birth or our savior?
Let the joyous music play. Let the bright lights and garland shine for all the world to see. Happy birthday, Jesus-the date isn’t important-but your birth is truly the greatest event in history We hope others will decorate…to express their joy, too.
If possible, in any electric window candle sets, please insert a blue light in each set to honor our police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and prison guards, all of whom protect us; and a green light bulb to honor our soldiers who daily place their lives in danger around the world for our nation, our freedom and each of us.
When those public servants or their families see the blue and green lights, they know that the citizens in that home or apartment care.
Merry Christmas.
