Sen. Toomey wants to militarize police

2 min read

After years of killing bills to help veterans, now U.S. Sen. Toomey, R-Pa., wants to get their equipment to militarize the police force after years of making sure every man, woman and child can carry a gun and take them into schools, churches and stores.

Maybe Mr. Toomey has realized how dangerous that really is and swings right to the other extreme and wants a militarized police department. He’s running to the right, so maybe all Republicans want assault vehicles roaming our neighborhoods. I’m sure all Pennsylvanians see how that would do well for community outreach in the already troubled communities.

Being a vet, I can just see how inviting that would be to see men in military riot gear doing community outreach, the key to getting the police and people back to working together again.

I am sure that Toomey has some survey from those exceptional people from the Shining City on the Hill that knows no unemployment, no poverty and the constant feeling of no way out. Mr. Toomey thinks militarizing the situation will bring about a positive reaction.

Mr. Toomey showed me and my fellow vets how he had our backs on the Veterans Jobs Bill (S3457). I still feel the knife in my back and watched how he was key to filibustering it to its end.

This is America and to you, Mr. Toomey, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania military gear is for our National Guard. Otherwise,  it is put in gun racks and storage until there is a war!

This is Mr. Toomey’s answer to a more perfect union; nothing more American than coming out of church to see an armed assault Hume and police in riot gear checking out our unauthorized gathering.

My hope is to see you and Mr. Santorum out looking for jobs together soon. As a veteran, I have only disdain for your fake persona to the veterans. Those jobs you filibustered could have helped communities get going again and in turn, take that fear you have that makes you want to arm the police for war.

As I and my fellow vets say, “Don’t Shake Our Hands, Hire Those Vets” and they will help us be “America The Beautiful” once again.
